Clara Marie Allen, born Clara Marie Bollo in 1913, lived her life for the cheer of others, in generosity and creativity unmatched. An artist, illustrator, author, and instructor lauded by people as disparate as veterans and feminists, labor historians and homemakers, she lived with humility and an endearing spirit. She will be remembered as the loyal sister, loving great-aunt, devoted mother, spunky grandmother, sweet mom-in-law, and spry great-grandma that she embodied. While her draftsmanship, in its incomparable will and style, held up to us a humanity and expressive swoop of dignity, humor, and purpose, she was and is, primarily, our loved CM.
